Photograph by Sue Miller time, space, and the whole shebang

discovered this morning
stretched taut enough to ache
my hand will span the globe
from here
            to
                there
from me
to you

decided this afternoon
five fingers straining
on a dusty cardboard sphere
to bridge the gap
love
can't be held hostage to the puny scale
of months
or maps

declaring now
when flesh fails to meet the need
for tender comfort
and relief
             i am with you still
in all
that matters most
